Do you know the proposed updates to the foundations of the English syllabus for basic to mid-level education in Chile?

The Ministry of Education has pushed forward the process of updating the English educational programs in Chile to improve language teaching from the first grade of basic-level education to the second grade of mid-level education. The aim is to develop competencies to better communicate in English through skills such as listening, writing, and speaking.

The subject’s purpose is to hone communication abilities to take part in a globalized and multicultural world, while strengthening our identities and respect for cultural diversity. The courses focus on the practical use of the language in real contexts, promoting effective communication in different situations.

Note that these updates are not a curricular reform since a new educational program is not being proposed. These are only adaptations, adjustments, and modifications made to the current syllabus. As the name suggests, it’s an update to foundations of the program of studies which are at the end of their lifecycle, as defined by the General Education Act, which calls for updates at least every six years.
